About

Not long ago, people considered space tourism as a utopic journey or as something that’s beyond humankind´s technological capabilities. However, the recent innovations and achievements by different commercially pioneering space companies will make space tourism a reality soon. Especially the followers of the developing new space industry are keen to witness also space tourism to become a new fully operating sector of aviation.

Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences, Porvoo Campus is organising the first ever Space Tourism Forum Porvoo – a free virtual event, which brings together experts of the field and introduces the pioneering work in the space tourism education and research. The virtual event will be held online on 26th November 2020 at 13-16.

The event welcomes everyone interested in the topic of space tourism – from technology experts to space curious students. The interactive event consists of keynote presentations and a panel discussion, offering a chance for the participants to network and ask questions from different field professionals.

The event has two keynote speakers, Annette Toivonen from Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and Mikko Dufva from SITRA. Annette Toivonen is a pioneering space tourism academic researcher, who during the event, will also launch her first book Sustainable Space Tourism: An Introduction (Channel View Publications, UK). Mikko Dufva is the Leading Foresight Specialist at the Finnish innovation fund SITRA, who focuses on examining the future trends and identifying weak signals that might become significant in the future.

The event will also host an expert panel, consisting of Space Physicist and Research Manager in Finnish Meteorological Institute Pekka Janhunen, Chief Specialist of Space Policy in Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment Maija Lönnqvist and Annette Toivonen. The panel will be moderated by Darren Trofimczuk, a technology expert and lecturer at Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences.
