Annette Toivonen is a tourism professional having worked globally for the industry for over a decade in diverse management positions. She is currently finalizing her world pioneering PhD thesis in sustainable space tourism in the University of Lapland, Finland. She has also gained both BA (University of Westminster, UK) and M.Sc (University of Lapland, Finland) in tourism research, holds a teacher’s pedagogical qualification (HAMK) and an Extractive Arctic Industries Certificate (The Arctic University of Norway).
Annette has been a guest speaker in different conferences and panels, such ATLAS conference 2019 and British-Estonian Chamber of Commerce event 2019, providing an insight into the sustainable future of the space tourism industry. Annette was also selected as one of the speakers in International Space Development 2020 in Texas (USA) (the event being postponed due to Covid-19).
Annette is about to publish her own book “Sustainable Space Tourism – An Introduction” (Channel View Publications) in November 2020 in the United Kingdom and is one of the co-authors for “Science Fiction, Disruption and Tourism” book published in 2021 the UK. Annette’s most recent article ”Sustainability Dimensions in Space Tourism: The Case of Finland” was published in Journal of Sustainable Tourism in June 2020 as a part of world’s first special edition on sustainable space tourism.
Annette is the co-creator of the Responsible Space Tourism module in Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences and she will be one of the keynote speakers in Space Tourism Forum Porvoo.
